If you want a getaway in nature, in the mountains, you are attracted by the history of the place or just want to explore the urban area, below you will find all these possibilities listed in a short but comprehensive travel guide for Argeș County.

We visited them with pleasure, we would return to those locations and we want to share details with you.


1. Villa Florica - this almost two centuries old beauty, built in neo-Romanian style, rises majestically on the hills of Ștefănești. It represents one of the most magnificent boyar domains of the country and the mansion where the most important family of Romanian politicians lived, with a decisive role in the formation of modern Romania - the Brătianu family.



2. Valea lui Stan Canyon - is the only tourist arranged canyon in the Făgăraș Mountains, and together with the Seven Stairs Canyon, it is the only arranged canyons in Romania.

The route (red dot marking, lasting about 5 hours) is impressive, with metal stairs arranged along the narrow valley, an adventure that will surely increase your adrenaline level, as well as admiration, respect for nature.



3. Curtea de Argeș Monastery - Orthodox construction built in the 16th century by the ruler of Wallachia, Neagoe Basarab.

In addition, the monastery includes as a whole the Royal Archbishop's Cathedral, where the remains of the members of the Royal House of Romania are, including King Mihai I, Charles II, Queens Anne and Helen.



4. Poenari Fortress - one of the most important tourist attractions in Romania.

Located between Vidraru Dam and Curtea de Argeș, at an altitude of 850 meters, it is a fortress rebuilt during the reign of Vlad Țepeș in order to protect it from the Turkish invasion.

To get to the top of the fortress, you will have to walk through the forest no less than 1480 steps.

5. Sătic village - belongs to Rucăr commune. It is located between the peaks of the Iezer-Păpușa and Piatra Craiului Mountains and it is a village representative of the Romanian tradition, overwhelmed by the greatness of nature.

It is a gateway to the Piatra Craiului National Park, from where you can start hiking to fascinating objectives of the Piatra Craiului Mountains, among which we mention the Stanciului Porch, the Great Grohotiș, the Stanciului Cave.



6. Vidraru Dam - it was created since 1960, a construction that lasted 6 years, in order to prevent floods, ranking 27th in the world in size.

The formed accumulation lake - Vidraru Lake - is exploited for tourism, organizing regular boat trips. It is a suitable place for boating and jet skiing activities, and overall, an area where you can enjoy the cool air and admire nature.



7. Pitești City - the county seat and the largest city of Argeș county. Although it was strongly affected by the communist era, few historic buildings remaining untouched, this does not change the fact that it remains one of the oldest cities in Romania, traces of human existence in the area dating back to the Paleolithic period.

Today, in Pitesti we can enjoy a forest located not far from the city center - Trivale Forest. There are also parks (the most significant being Lunca Argeșului Park and Ștrand Park) beautifully arranged, perfect areas for boating, running, cycling or rollerblading, for tennis or badminton.



8. Golești Museum - former residence of the family of scholars of the same name, built in 1640, serving as their home for several centuries. The Golești family had a capital importance in the development of education in these lands.

Besides the Goleștilor Mansion, we can also visit the open-air ethnographic museum which includes peasant households, a church, a school, craft workshops… a space overgrown with trees, flowers, greenery, with the appearance of an authentic Romanian village.

9. Dâmbovicioarei Gorges - with an impressive patience, the Dâmbovicioara River dug a long and narrow corridor of about 3 km in the rock and gave us a splendid landscape, with steep and sharp rocks.

There are several dozen caves in the area; the best known are Dâmbovicioara Cave, Dracilor Cave, Colțul Surpat Cave, Uluce Cave.


10. Câmpulung Muscel City - The first residence of Wallachia.

It is a small, chic town, dotted with old buildings and a boulevard called "Pardon" for a long time, due to the frequent clashes between bohemian walkers who immediately expressed their apologies.
