Hello, travelers! We propose you a series of places not to be missed for the moment when you decide to arrive in Brașov city, one of the most visited places in Romania.
Brașov (Kronstadt, in German / Brasso, in Hungarian) was documented in the early 1200s, in a catalog of Transylvanian and Hungarian monasteries, but its existence dates back to ancient times, in the Middle Ages, as evidenced by traces of settlements found in the area of Dealul Melilor and Dealul Șprenghi. Due to its strategic positioning - between the great passes Bran, Predeal and Oituz, it was the most important connection point between Moldova, Wallachia and Transylvania.
Today, it is an important cultural and economic center of the country, with extraordinary destinations that we invite you to view further.
Council Square - the “old town”, or the most popular tourist attraction of the city, full of wide pedestrian streets, restaurants and cafes that will offer you a special culinary experience. You can't visit the beautiful medieval town without being included in the program and a walk in the old town.

The Black Church - will not go unnoticed, being placed right in the Council Square. It is the most representative Gothic monument in the south-eastern part of Europe and the largest building in Romania built in this style. It is also the second largest church in the country.

Mount Tâmpa - the mountain that gives a unique charm to the city, as well as the opportunity to recreate by choosing one of the marked trails along this natural beauty. It is a source of escape for both Brasov residents and for us travelers.
There are the following possibilities to reach the top of Tâmpa, by foot:
Choosing the Serpentine Road (red triangle marking), a short road of about 800 m, with a steep, winding ascent, which starts near the cable car, at the base of the mountain;
Gabony steps (yellow triangle marking), which can be crossed through the northern part of the mountain. It is the most difficult route, as demanding as it is spectacular. We went through the steps in summer and winter - both on land and in wet weather - and we recommend that you opt for this option only in a period without rain, because the steps become slippery and there is a risk of injury;
The Knight's Road (marked with a blue stripe), which starts from the Weavers' Bastion, from the southern part of Mount Tâmpa and continues through Tâmpa Saddle.
We attach below a relevant image for all three variants.

At the end, following one of the routes, Mount Tâmpa will throw us at our feet (literally, at our feet) and a reward - a panorama over the city, observed from the viewpoint near the letters on the mountain that form the word "BRAȘOV":

You will have the same view if you choose the fourth option, the cable car climb, but we advise you to take a hike on Tâmpa at least once. It's worth it.
The alley under Tâmpa - a very quiet area, located at the base of Mount Tâmpa, perfect for physical activities, but also for gentle walks. It offers a spectacular view of the old city center, as well as an interesting history lesson, as there are information panels with data about the old fortress of Brașov.
Sforii Street - the third narrowest street in Europe, a narrow corridor, 80 m long, which illustrates the first urbanization trends of old Brasov.
Weavers' Bastion - tower whose construction began in 1421, defended and managed by the former weavers' guild. Over the years, levels, battle galleries, shooting ranges for small and large caliber weapons have been added.
If you decide to pay a visit, you will come across a prepared guide, which will provide details on the history of the whole city, as well as the possibility to climb to the upper levels of the tower. We visited the Weavers' Bastion during the winter, when it began to flake slowly, that thin wave of promo that had spread in the courtyard of the bastion giving us a unique experience.
The First Romanian School - in Brașov you will meet the place where the first courses in Romanian were taught, dating from the 18th century, being built by the Romanians from Șchei together with the support of the voivodes. The building currently houses the Museum of the First Romanian School, a witness to a strong spiritual resistance. There are about 4,000 old books and more than 30,000 documents of inestimable historical value, treasures that will increase our knowledge about the beginnings of education in these lands.

The White Tower - part of the remains of Brașov, is the tallest tower of the city and dates back to the 15th century. The tower with semicircular architecture and numerous pits for pulling and pouring pitch rises today peacefully, majestically more than 30 m above the walls of the fortress.
It is reached next to the Graft Bastion (the former link between the medieval city soldiers and the White Tower), crossing a shady and chic alley, with historical significance, Strada Dupa Ziduri, along which a stream of water shimmers shyly.

The White Tower is based on several dozen stairs. After a slightly difficult climb and a few gasps, your effort is rewarded by another viewpoint of the city, as you will see below.

The Black Tower - is one of the four observation towers of the Brașov Citadel, its construction being started simultaneously with that of the White Tower. It is located outside the city walls, as an independent fortification, in order to prevent the approach of enemies to the city.

Art Museum - a small building with an intimate atmosphere, which hosts temporary exhibitions on its ground floor.
We have captured, as a temporary exhibition, a beautiful and delicate collection of Japanese prints from the Edo period of the seventeenth century, the period of cultural and economic rise of Japan.

Upstairs, we find several sculptures, as well as paintings belonging to well-known Romanian painters: Nicolae Grigorescu, Ștefan Luchian, Nicolae Tonitza, Theodor Pallady, Ion Musceleanu, Gheorghe Petrașcu, Alexandru Ciucurencu.
We add, further, some of the paintings I found out about many years ago at school, at my dear art classes, paintings that I found with pleasure in this museum.
“Anemone”, Ștefan Luchian:

“Child's head”, Nicolae Tonitza:

“Convoy of Turkish prisoners”, Nicolae Grigorescu:

We keep a strong attachment to this city, where you will find a harmonious combination of nature, history and modernity.
We invite you to share in the comments the impressions left by your own experiences in Brașov, as well as any questions you have about it.
Beautiful trips!
