Boqueria Square in Barcelona (Mercado de La Boqueria)

Poza scriitorului: Traveler SoulsTraveler Souls

In order to keep the variety of experiences, we decided to take you by the hand and leave Romania. You read that right - the two "Traveler Souls" love any new location and opportunity to discover the beauty of other cultures. This time, we travel to Spain, more precisely to Catalonia, Barcelona. Why not share your summer memories with you? In Barcelona, whether you soar through the winding and narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter in the middle of summer or walk in December in amazement and humility near the sumptuous yachts left in the Port of Barcelona, the memories will also take on a summery look, because the temperature it is gentle with those who choose the emblematic Catalan city.

In this article, however, neither the fascinating Gothic Quarter nor the yachts will delight your imagination.

We go to the market.

Keep your patience, because you don't just buy garlic from La Boqueria Square. This, also known as San Jose Square, is an important tourist attraction of Barcelona and a multicolored labyrinth inside which are placed over 300 tables, where various local and exotic products are exhibited.

Knowing their competitive prices, the sellers make their goods known, often by shouting, the goods, but these shouts create a unique experience for the traveler and transpose him into the local community, in the shoes of an ordinary Catalan.

Dragon fruit, papaya, mango, coconut, rambutan, carambola, passion fruit - all delight the lustful eye and smell. They are sold both in their fresh, raw form, and squeezed or cut into enough glasses at a price, we believe, affordable, of 1-2 euros.

Not only the scent of fruits infiltrates our souls, but also the diversity of goodies. In La Boqueria we also find seafood, spices that frantically sting your senses, meat and - the guilty pleasure of the two "Traveler Souls" - a lot of chocolate.

Filling the bag with what you see above, we advance into the colorful maze.

What impression do these mustaches make on you?

But these?

They scared us, so we quickly turned our eyes to the restaurants to get them out of our minds - yes, there are restaurants, pubs serving in the middle of this amalgam of colors, where seafood and herbs on the counter replace the combination of salt and pepper found on the tables of the classic restaurant.

The chefs compete in gimmicks and unique dishes, giving us an authentic visual and gastronomic experience.

So, restaurants located in a market. So we don't just buy garlic from La Boqueria?

Quickly reviewing the history of the market, we learned that the first tables for the sale of meat have been present since the thirteenth century, and in 2013 was restored a modernist arch entering the market. Thus, the access is made from the well-known and circulated pedestrian street La Rambla, about which we will certainly mention in a future article.

Undoubtedly, it is one of the symbolic places of Barcelona, both for locals and tourists; you will regain your energy and your senses will enjoy serving Catalan food on the market counters.

If you consider that it is not enough just to take you with us on the virtual tour, but you will want to experience the multitude of colors and flavors in the market, then La Boqueria will be open for you from Monday to Saturday, from 08:00 until 8:30 p.m.
